Toshiba announces what it says is its highest capacity 2.5" enterprise-class HDD-- the MK01GRRB/R, offering up to 300GB of storage and self-encryption technology.
Drive speed is 15000rpm, with a 6Gbps SAS interface and average seek times of 2.7ms (read) and 3ms (write).
The self-encryption technology crypto-graphically erases protected information-- allowing users to return, service, repurpose or retire drives without the need for data overwrite operations or the physical destruction of drives, according to Toshiba. The technology also fits the Trusted Computing Group "Enterprise SSC" specification.
Power consumption is either 4.5W (300GB) or 4.3W (147GB).
Toshiba should start shipping the drives in Q2 2012.
