E-mail Print PDF

The global server market continued to grow in Q4 2019, Gartner reports, as revenues are up by 5.1% Y-o-Y and shipments see 11.7% Y-o-Y growth. The same cannot be said for full-year 2019, as shipments are down by -3.1% and revenues by -2.5%.

Gartner Q4 2019 server revenues

"The market returned to growth with a very strong Q4 2019 result, largely driven by a return of demand from hyperscalers,” the analyst says. “However, the outlook for the worldwide server market in 2020 is subject to great uncertainty. The impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is expected to temper forecast growth. Although demand from the hyperscale segment is expected to continue through H1 2020, other buying organisations’ reactions will vary.”

Dell EMC leads in terms of Q4 2019 revenues, since it manages to secure 17.3% market share despite a -9.9% Y-o-Y revenue decline. HPE follows with 15.4% of the market, while 3rd placing IBM sees the strongest revenue growth in the quarter at 28.6% Y-o-Y. Dell EMC also leads in shipments, as it secures top position with 14.2% market share and shipments reaching nearly 550000 units. HPE comes 2nd with 10.8% of the market, and Inspur takes 3rd place with shipments reaching 296934 units, a 1.1% Y-o-Y increase.

Gartner Q4 2019 Server shipments

Dell EMC takes both top spots in revenue and shipments for full-year 2019, with respective market share at 20.5% and 16.3%. HPE is 2nd with market share of 17.3% in revenue and 12.3% in shipments. Inspur Electronic is the only vendor in the top 5 to see both revenue and shipment growth in 2019.
