Equinix acquires further edge computing capabilities with the purchase of bare metal cloud provider Packet. The asking price is unavailable, but according to Pitchbook Packet has a valuation of $100 million.
Packet offers a bare metal automation platform allowing users to consumer infrastructure at scale. The company handles the complexity of infrastructure automation at scale, no matter the location or owner. Equinix plans to leverage such capabilities to create an enterprise-grade bare metal offering across Platform Equinix, one allowing customers to rapidly deploy digital infrastructure, within minutes, on a global scale.

The Packet acquisition is set to close on fiscal Q1 2020.
