VMware Brings Cloud Foundation to Google Cloud

Google and VMware look to make it easier to run VMware workloads on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)-- specifically by bringing support for the VMware Cloud Foundation hybrid cloud management technology to GCP.

VMware Cloud Foundation is available on IBM, AWS, Azure and Dell EMC hardware, and allows the management of both on-premises and public cloud infrastructure. Interestingly, the solution comes to GCP via CloudSimple, a provider of private cloud infrasturcture for the VMware vSphere platform, while both Google and CloudSimple will provide first-line support.

"Customers have asked us to provide broad support for VMware, and now with Google Cloud VMware Solution by CloudSimple, our customers will be able to run VMware vSphere-based workloads in GCP," Google says. "This brings customers a wide breadth of choices for how to run their VMware workloads in a hybrid deployment, from modern containerized applications with Anthos to VM-based applications with VMware in GCP."

The solution leverages VMware software-defined datacentre (SDCC) technologies, including VMware vSphere, NSX and vSAN software, on a GCP CloudSimple-administered platform. As such, customers can migrate MVware workloads to a VMware SDDC running in GCP with full access to vCenter, vSAN and NSX-T, as well as Google-powered capabilities of the AI and ML variety.

Google Cloud VMware Solution will be available sometime in 2019.
