As part of the EU's digital agenda, the European Commission launches a €600m public-private partnership into the Internet of the Future project (FI-PPP).
The EC says the partnership should support European innovation and help both businesses and governments develop internet solutions able to manage online data's exponential increase-- an increase the current internet will just not be able to manage to handle.
€300m in funding (over the next 5 years) will come from the EC, while an equal amount comes from research organisations, public sector and industry.
The FI-WARE project will be receiving €41m in EU funding for the development of core platform tools required to build privacy, real-time processing and cloud computing services. Another 8 case project will lead development, each receiving €5m in funding over 2 years.
The FI-PPP programme involves 152 different organisations from 23 EU member states.
