Google Presents Glass Enterprise 2

E-mail Print PDF

Google presents an update on the Enterprise Edition of the Glass wearable, one promising to build on feedback received from customers to further help businesses improve on employee efficiency.

Google Glass 2The Glass Enterprise Edition looks similar to the first enterprise-focused variant on the original Glass. It is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 platform, and features a more poweful multicore CPU and an AI engine Google says brings "significant" power savings, enhanced performance and support for computer vision and machine learning capabilities. Also found inside are 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB eMMC flash.

The 8MP camera has an 80-degree FOV and has a privacy LED, and features improved perofrmance and quality building on existing first person video streaming and collaboration features. Charging comes via USB-C, while the onboard software is built on Android, making it easier for customers to integrate existing services and APIs. In addition, Glass Enterprise Edition 2 supports Android Enterprise Mobile Device Management.

Interestingly, whereas Google Glass was a product of X, the Alphabet moonshot laboratory, the enterprise success of the Enterprise Edition (which counts the likes of AGCO, Deutsche Post DHL Group, Sutter Health, and H.B. Fuller as customers) has seen the Glass team move from X to the Google AR/VR division, whose projects include Daydream and ARCore.
