VMware Enterprise PKS Reaches 1.4

E-mail Print PDF

VMware announces Enterprise PKS-- aka Pivotal Container Service-- version 1.4, with functionality to allow customers operationalise the cloud-native Kubernetes container orchestration platform.

Enteprise PKSEnterprise PKS is the result of a partnership with Pivotal. Based on the Kubernetes 1.3 release, PKS 1.4 offers new security and automation features, together with seamless integration with VMware NSXT-T 2.4 virtual networking technology. A converged NSX manager appliance design merging management and central control services on a cluster of nodes promises a threefold increase in pod scalability and high availability. In addition, combining NSX-T with VMware vRealize Network Insight integration provides networking visibiilty down to the application level.

Further key networking and security features in Enteprise PKS 1.4 include per-tenant DNS specification for deeper multi-tenancy and pod security policies and admission customisation for fine-grained security control through native Kubernetes constructs. The addition of blueprints for deployment helps improve flexibility with cluster design, and automated cAdvisor deployment helps operators easily integrate and monitor Kubernetes clusters through vRealize Operations.

Furthermore, VMware announces Enterprise PKS with Windows container workload support-- a beta release incorporating the capabilities of upstream Kubernetes 1.14. Through the beta organisations can run Windows-based applications on upstream Kubernetes, and plan Windows container strategies.
