Lenovo announces what it says is the first enterprise-class Cloud Ready Client (CRC)-- a development with Intel to optimise the PC experience while reducing drag on data centers.
The CRC takes is supposed to take note of what devices have access to the cloud, and take advantage of more powerful hardware (unlike regular cloud applications playing to the lowest common denominator).
However it will only be available for Sandy Bridge-enabled devices.
A second Lenovo announcement is its Secure Cloud Access (SCA), an application allowing business organisations to quickly deploy private/hybrid clouds on physical or virtual servers, powered by Stoneware's webNetwork.
SCA allows users to access their web-based desktops using a Java-enabled browser connected to the internet. By recognising situational cues (such as user authentication methods, device capabilities, location and network), it allocates either local or cloud-based resources according to device capabilities and available bandwidth.
It also provides enchanced security with support for SSL and VPN access, Active Directory, eDirectory or LDAP solution integration and the ability to add additional levels of authentication in situations where authentication doesn't already exist.
