Open-Source Cloud Management From Scality

E-mail Print PDF

Distributed file and object storage and multicloud data control specialist Scality launches Zenko version 1.0-- an cloud-native multicloud data controller available in open-source and enterprise editions.

Scality ZenkoNamed after a Japanese celestial fox with supernatural powers, Zenko was first released last year as an open-source project based on Docker Swarm. Version 1.0 uses a Kubernetes orchestration framework, allowing for more flexibility and a larger ecosystem around Kubernetes. It supports on-premises storage and cloud storage on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Digital Ocean, Wasabi, and Scality’s own software-defined storage product, Ring.

A single SaaS interface provides an endpoint to store, manage, retreive and search data across locations, and since all data is stored unmodified customers can access and act on it directly in the cloud. As such, in Azure Zenko stores data in Azure Blob Storage native format, while storage on AWS takes place in the S3 native format.

Scality says it is committed to being vendor agnostic, and the focus of the upcoming 1.1 release is on additional integrations. Cloud application developers can use Zenko without worrying about coding to multiple APIs, and the choice of storage can be based solely on business needs such as costs, availability and specific analytic capabilities. For instance, it can be used in financial services and other regulated industries using on-site storage for security and control, but need cloud services for off-site compliance and backups.

The Zenko 1.0 open-source edition is available now for free, while the enterprise edition is available on a subscription basis.
