Samsung launches the Portable SSD X5-- the first NVMe-based portable SSD from the company, featuring "cutting-edge" Thunderbolt 3 technology to bring customers speedy data transfers within a durable form factor.
“As a leader in high-performance and reliable storage solutions, we are thrilled to continue to advance the external SSD market with the introduction of our first Thunderbolt 3 portable SSD,” the company says. “The X5 is yet another testament to Samsung’s commitment to providing innovative portable storage solutions that enable faster transfer of large data files, saving users’ valuable time.”
Aimed at content creators and professionals on the go, the X5 features 40Gbps bandwidth, as well as read speeds up to 280M0B/s and maximum write of 2300MB/s, allowing the transfer of a 20GB file in all of 12 seconds. Capacity reaches up to 2TB, within an all-metal body with a shock-resistant internal frame and housing able to withstand drops of up to 2m.
Further protection comes through Dynamic Thermal Guard and a heat sink ensuring the drive maintains optimal operating temperatures. Data protection is also included, since the drive carries AES 256-bit hardware encryption with optional password protection and easy security setting configuration.
The X5 is available from September 2018 in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB models.
