Windows Admin Centre Preview Gets More Azure Cloud Tools

E-mail Print PDF

Microsoft adds further to Windows Admin Centre Preview (version 1808) with improvements to tools and configuration options, including an Apps & Features extension, an updated task scheduler and expanded file sharing support in multiple tools.

Windows AzureThe latest release also promises improvements for Azure Site Recovery and Azure Update Management hybrid scenarios. Thus, server settings such as environment variables, remote desktop and RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) settings are available as a standalone tool at the boom of the tool list in the Server Manager. Hyper-V host settings are also available on standalone servers and clusters with Hyper-V enabled, and allow admins to change configurations across all cluster nodes at once, something not possible in previous versions.

Another update involves Azure Update Management-- previously usable only from a Windows Admin Centre installation on desktop, the feature now works regardless of where Windows Admin Centre is deployed. Admins taking care of Hyper-Converged clusters get additional information in the Drives > Summary page, and two new charges show the hit rate of the Storage Spaces Direct read cache and how full the write cache is.

Also getting updates is the preview version of Windows Admin Centre SDK, with additions including a command line interface, the ability to target different SDK versions and updated publishing options.

Windows Admin Centre Preview 1808 is available for registered Microsoft Insiders from the Windows Server Insider Preview download page.
