The IBM Cloud Private application platform is now available on Big Blue's enterprise Cloud Managed Services (CMS), allowing customers to sync existing CMS investments with the Kubernetes-based IBM solution.

IBM CloudAccording to the company, through the combination of the two solutions customers can take advantage of the production-ready CMS cloud environments while reaping the benefits of the cloud-native DevOps capabilities of IBM Cloud Private, accelerating time to market for innovative cloud-native applications.

"We see that organisations are aggressively transforming to respond faster to changing market, customer and competitive demands," IBM says. "To support them in their journeys, IBM is continuously innovating and adapting its cloud offerings. By combining the power of IBM Cloud Managed Services and IBM Cloud Private, customers will be able to benefit from a highly-secure and versatile environment for managing and modernizing apps and turning decades of data into competitive advantage."

First revealed back in November 2017 as a hybrid cloud solution, IBM Cloud Private is a private cloud platform for the development and running of local workloads. While not based on OpenStack, it includes the Kubernetes container orchestrator, a private image repository, a management console and monitoring frameworks. It runs in both on-premises and many public cloud environments, as well as CMS.

Running IBM Cloud Private on CMS adds further security and disaster recovery capabilities, while IBM Cloud Private provides CMS clients with faster access to IBM analytics, data, middleware and Watson portfolios.

IBM Cloud Private running on CMS will be available from July 2018.
