Packet, Platform9, Datera Unite in Private Cloud

E-mail Print PDF

Bare metal server provider Packet joins forces with open source hybrid cloud specialist Platform9 and data services provider Datera to launch a private cloud promising greater control over the platform.

Packet Platform9As the three companies put it, the private cloud solution is a "unique value proposition"-- an integrated service spanning hardware and facility operations, automated data services and a managed private cloud delivered as a service. It claims many of the benefits of public cloud, but with additional location, security and performance benefits, as well as a lower cost of ownership.

“What we’re providing here is the polished experience of the public cloud, but with significantly more choice and performance,” Packet says. “By combining the strengths of market leaders like Datera and Platform9 with Packet-managed bare metal, we’re able to deliver it at a fraction of the cost of traditional public or private cloud solutions.”

The companies came together after Platform9 migrated its SaaS platform out of AWS to Packet bare metal servers. As they put it, "the restrictions of the public cloud environment, complexities of the billing and delivery model, and overall costs created basic business limitations that were unacceptable."

Customers can deploy the joint solution in any of the 18 Packet global locations. Additional facilities are also available via custom arrangement. The Platform9 control plane provides turnkey managed OpenStack, Kubernetes and Fission serverless resources with, depending on infrastructure selection, faster initial deployment time than other datacentre solutions.
