Hardware Security Module (HSM) maker Ultimaco looks to boost its position in finacial services with the acquisition of the Atalla HSM and enterprise secure key manager (ESKM) business lines from Micro Focus.
Germany-based Ultimaco says the deal allows it to address demand for merging payment functionality with general purpose needs. The Atalla HSM offering protects sensitive data and keys for non-cash retail payments, carholder authentication and cryptographic keys. Meanwhile the ESKM tool provides a centralised means to unify and automate encryption key controls.
"Both Utimaco and Atalla are pioneers in hardware security modules, the combination of which leads to an unrivaled wealth of experience and know-how," Ultimaco says. "We have tremendous respect for Atalla´s technological achievements in the payments arena and want to remain a focused specialist in this area, and directly approachable for partners and customers."
The acquisition comes just 8 months after Micro Focus bought Atalla from HP. The Atalla IPC Express line was launched by HP in September 2015 as a means to help organisations deal automate data classification and the protection levels of unstructured data. A year late the Atalla HSM was integrated with HPE Secure Data, creating an end-to-end encryption offering.
