Cisco Embraces Containers

E-mail Print PDF

Cisco announces an own take on containers-- the Cisco Container Platform, a "turnkey, open and production-grade" container platform allowing customers to run applications the same way on premises and in public clouds.

KubernetesBased on the open-source upstream Kubernetes container orchestration platform, Cisco Container Platform promises to address the end-to-end management of container clusers, including setup, orchestration, authentication, monitoring, networking, load balancing and optimisation. It is also extensible to other deployment environments and to networking, security, analytics and management tools.

Being a Cisco products it obviously works with other offerings from the company. As such, it will be first released on HyperFlex 3.0, and includes Contiv for container networking for further integration with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI). It is also the result of Cisco's collaboration with Google, meaning it will be combined with the upcoming hybrid cloud offering from the two companies.

Cisco Container Platform will be first available with HyperFlex 3.0 on April 2018, before it gets support for generic VMs, VMware, bare metal and public clouds on Q3 2018.
