Playbook Ecosystem: Androids Allowed

RIM announces the Playbook will support Android and Blackberry Java apps-- opening the tablet's ecosystem to Google's more popular mobile platform. 

Blackberry PlaybookThis is makes life easier to developers wanting to port their releases to the enterprise-level platform-- as well as for users wanting more content. An optional "app player" will provide the application run-time environment Blackberry Java and Android apps.

In further news for developers, RIM will also release the Playbook's native SDK-- allowing for application development in C/C++. 

Once developers build their apps, they'll need to repackage, code sign and submit their work to Blackberry App World, RIM's take on the app store content. RIM also says developers will be also able to easily port Android/Blackberry apps to work directly on the Playbook due to "high degree of API compatibility. 

The Playbook itself carries a QNX Neutrino microkernel architecture with a dual-core 1GHz processor and a leading OpenGL solution.
