NetApp Brings NFS to Microsoft Azure

E-mail Print PDF

NetApp expands its partnership with Microsoft as it announces of the integration of NetApp Network File System (NFS) technology into the Microsoft Azure cloud.

NetAppNFS offerings are already available on public clouds, but the Microsoft-NetApp partnership delivers NFS natively in Azure via the cloud's console. As such it is available to both NetApp and non-NetApp customers, and promises levels of NFS performance identical to those of on-premises datacentres.

Through the Microsfot Azure Enterprise NFS services admins can also provision, automate and scale NFS services by using RESTful APIs. Data protection comes through on-demand automated snapshots, and the service supports both NFS V3 and V4 workloads to customers operating in the cloud and hybrid cloud. It also integrates with other Azure services, such as analytics, SQL services and SAP Hana for Azure.

Meanwhile NetApp AltaVault adds support for Azure Archive Storage, providing a choice of hot, cool or cold storage options in the Azure cloud for data protection.

“Enterprises depend on Microsoft’s cloud innovation and its broad portfolio of Azure cloud-integrated services to keep them competitive in the fast-moving digital age,” NetApp says. “This new development in our strategic alliance will extend the reach of NetApp’s world-class data services for Azure cloud and support customers as they modernise their businesses and pursue new opportunities for growth.”
