Extreme Networks Buys Brocade Datacentre Business

E-mail Print PDF

DatacentreBroadcom continues to offload Brocade networking, as it sells the Brocade datacentre switching, routing and analytics business to Extreme Networks for $55 million.

The deal follows the February 2017 sale of the Ruckus network edge portfolio and the Broadcom ICX switching line to Arris Technologies for $800 million.

"The addition of Brocade’s datacentre networking business significantly strengthens our position in the expanding high-end data center market and reinforces our strategy of delivering software-driven networking solutions focused on enterprise customers,” Extreme says. “As Extreme is the only pure play end-to-end, wired and wireless enterprise IP networking company in the world, we believe Brocade’s data center customers will benefit from our dedication to delivering high quality, software-driven, secure networking solutions and the industry’s highest rated customer support."

The Extreme checkbook had some busy times lately-- earlier this month the company shelled out $100m for the Avaya networking business (just months after Avaya filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection), and 2016 saw it pay $55m for the Zebra Technology WLAN business.
