Dell EMC Presents ScaleIO Ready Node

E-mail Print PDF

The newly merged Dell EMC presents a first product-- the ScaleIO Ready Node, essentially 13th generation PowerEdge x86-based servers optimised to run ScaleIO software-defined block storage software.

ScaleIOAccording to the company the ScaleIO Ready node enables customers to quickly deploy a server storage-area network fitting within existing legacy infrastructure. As a fully supported DSD solution it features workload-optimised PowerEdge rack servers, enhanced caching software and operating system flexibility through compatibility with Linux, Windows, Unix and OpenStack.

The system is also hypervisor-agnostic, as it supports VMware vSphere, Windows Server 2012 and Hyper-V, Linux and OpenStack deployments. Customers can also select different deployment models (storage-only and hyper-converged) and configurations, including all-HDD, all-flash and hybrid.

Storage maxes out at 46TB in an all-flash 24 x 1.92TB configuration. Also included in the hardware are Broadwell Xeon CPUs, 12GB/s SAS interfaces to disk and x4 10GbE ports.

"Historically, having server-based flash led to poor resource utilisation because performance and capacity were only supporting local applications," Dell EMC says."With the software-defined storage in ScaleIO Ready Nodes, the ability to abstract, pool and automate storage devices across a multitude of servers, and in turn, allocate as little or as much performance and capacity as needed to individual applications, is just as easy as allocating compute and memory resources in a virtualised environment."
