Secure Agreement for Non-PC Devices

E-mail Print PDF

mcAfeeSoon to be Intel subsidiary McAfee and Wind River (another Intel subsidiary) announce an agreement to develop security solutions for embedded and mobile non-PC devices at RSA Conference 2011.

The rapid growth in connectivity (or the "internet of things") creates ever-growing security vulnerabilties-- as seen recently in the recent Stuxnet attack on Siemens-based systems in Iran.

McAfee estimates the number of connected devices will grow to 50bn by 2020, with growth coming from industrial control, energy management, automotive, national infrastructure, defense, networking and smartphones, alongside smart grid, connected home health care, home gateways and tablets.

The 2 companies' agreement will initially involve integration between Wind River Linux and McAfee's security solutions. Following this are integrations with other Wind River operating systems and embedded virtualisation technologies.

Wind River will also start including McAfee offerings in its future products.
