Dell Intros Mid-Range DSS 9000 Infrastructure

E-mail Print PDF

Dell presents the DSS 9000 ahead of MWC 2016-- a modular rack-level infrastructure aimed at mid-size and large customers featuring compute and storage sleds, built-in networking and shared power/cooling.

Dell DSS 9000Designed as a flexible solution for carriers and cloud service providers, the system ships open management APIs allowing users to create composable infrastructure at rack-level from Intel's Rack Scale Architecture (RSA) and Redfish. Customers can configure racks according to how much processing or storage capabilities are required, with each rack holding up to 80 compute or 40 storage modules.

One can combine storage and compute modules within a rack, and racks offer multiple networking switches and power bays. Compute modules feature a 2-socket motherboard with 16 DIMM slots and support for x86 server processors.

"Our design maximises configuration options while enabling administrators and developers to address and manage the infrastructure as an integrated pool of capabilities and capacities-- not as independent servers, arrays, and switches," Dell says.

The DSS 9000 should ship from H2 2016.
