Networking vendor Mellanox announces the Switch-IB 2-- a 100Gb/s InfiniBand switch optimised for High-Performance Computing, database and cloud datacentre applications.
Described by the company as the "world's first smart network switch," the Switch-IB 2 offloads MPI operations from the CPU to the network to deliver up to 10X performance improvements, creating next generation scalable and data intensive datacentres.
It integrates 144 SerDes operating at 1GB/s to 25GB/s speeds per lane, and delivers 7.02 billion messages-per-second, 90ns switch latency and lower power consumption.
