Tablets' growing capabilities lead to the growing adoption of utilities enabling the use of apps running on another computer, server or the cloud. Secure access clients run enterprise-level security while leaving no enterprise code or data on the client device.
For example, Citrix Receiver on iPad connects to Xenapps and Xendesktop. Wyse Pocketcloud connects to a number of platforms, including VMware and Xendesktop.
A number of proprietary and generic secure access clients should emerge-- facilitating media tablet support and integration within enterprise applications.
The increase in tablet use for enterprise-developed applications will require both a broader range of platform coverage from mobile device management and changes in application development focus. Enterprises will have to design for mobile first-- working on multiple screen sizes, resolutions and more focus on interface and usability issues.
