QNAP Intros Thunderbolt 2 NAS

QNAP Systems launches what it claims is the first NAS featuring Thunderbolt 2 Turbo vNAS connectivity-- the TVS-871T, a device combining the high transfer speeds of DAS with the NAS form factor.

QNAP NASAccording to QNAP connectivity speeds reach up to 20Gbps, and when combined with Thunderbolt-ready storage expansion enclosures (such as the TX-500P or TX-800P) the TVS-871T makes an ideal storage solution for prosumers and creative media professionals looking to streamline 4K video and design workflows.

Customers can configure the 8-bay TVS-871T with various Haswell processor options, including Intel Core i5 and i7 CPUs. As well as two Thunderbolt 2 ports the NAS also features two 10GbE ports. The LAN ports run independently alongside the Thunderbolt 2 interface, providing flexible file sharing together with high-speed storage.

Storage capacity reaches a maximum of 448TB with the addition of up to 6 QNAQ expansion enclosures.

The TVS-871T even works as a PC substitute-- QvPC technology allows the connection of a keyoard, mouose and HDMI display for direct access to stored data, running multiple VMs, surfing the web, watching 4K videos or even monitoring IP camera video feeds, all running on a variety of QNAP and 3rd party apps.
