WW server shipments grow 14.2% in Q3 2010 Y-O-Y, while revenue grows 15.3%, Gartner says.
The company describes x86-based servers as the market's main driver-- with 14.9% unit growth and 29.5% revenue growth in Q3 2010.
Mainframes add to the quarter's revenue increase with 9.9% growth.
Meanwhile RISC/Itanium Unix servers drop by 10.1% in shipments and 9.5% in vendor revenue compared to Q3 2009.
E. Europe shows the highest WW vendor revenue growth, with 33.3%, while W. Europe grows 8.8% in shipments and 5.7% in vendor revenue.
EMEA server shipments surpass the 581000 mark, a 10.4% increase over 2009. Server revenue totals $3.3 billion, a growth of 7.4%.
Gartner says the EMEA server market continues its recovery but at a lower rate than 2008. The ongoing econommic uncertaintity inhibits higher demand and spending levels.
HP retains its top vendor position, even if its market share declines slightly (from 44.8% to 44.4%). Following it are Dell (18.8%) and IBM (12.2%).
