Google and VMware Team Up in ChromeOS

E-mail Print PDF

Enterprise Chromebook users can access Windows applications more easily following a Google-VMware partnership bringing Horizon Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) to the cloud-powered operating system.

ChromebooksAccording to Vmware customers will be able to access Windows applications, apps and desktops via web-based application catalog. ChromeOS users can already remotely access Windows machines via Google Remote Desktop app (as well as a number of 3rd party solutions), but VMware promises the addition of enterprise-class security features.

Powering all is VMware's Blast HTML5 technology.

Thus, as Google puts it, ChromeOS-optimised Horizon DaaS allows customers to "centralise other desktop environments and manage these as a cloud service.”

Horizon DaaS will initially be available to customers as either cloud-based or hybrid deployments from VMWare or vCloud service provider partners. No launch dates are available as yet.
