Vello Intros VellOS 7.0

E-mail Print PDF

Vello Systems claims to "shatter" the walls between optical, ethernet and virtual networking with VellOS 7.0, a scalable enterprise network OS uniting all networking technologies under a single vendor-agnostic platform.

Vello SystemsAccording to the company VellOS 7.0 allows customers to build and manage "highly adaptable, reliable and cost effective" infrastructure using a mix of networking technologies, with a common framework handling optical, ethernet and virtual networking planes.

Based on a distributed Linux framework, VellOS incorporates standards-based RESTful APIs and GUI-style network policy and control, allowing users to mix and match OpenFlow-enabled network devices.

Meanwhile plug-ins allow it to interwork with any number of orchestration solutions.

Vello says an application within a hybrid optical/ethernet data centre under VellOS control can "decide" to send QoS/latency-sensitive long data flows across lossless optical paths rather than availalable ethernet fabric.

Of course, the OS is fully compatible with the Vello networking hardware offering, such as the VX ethernet forwarding engine family (Vello VX1048 and VX3048) and Vello CX optical network systems.
