Violin Memory and Toshiba Team Up in Storage

E-mail Print PDF

Memory-based storage maker Violin Memory expands partnership with NAND flash inventor Toshiba in order to create a new generation of PCIe flash memory cards for server use.

Nand ViolinToshiba will supply the NAND flash while Violin provides access to enterprise IP relating to PCI architecture and memory-based storage software.

The alliance also brings economies of scale to Violin, as well as full visibility and control of Toshiba supply chain, manufacturing, distribution and R&D efforts at the foundry, chip and software layer.

“Our new focus on PCIe cards will allow both companies to drive radical new economics that lead to the mass adoption of memory-based architectures,” Violin says. “NAND memory is now a requirement at every level from the smart connected device to the core of the cloud and the enterprise data center. Violin’s combined portfolios continue our leadership across the evolving memory-based solution market.”

The current Velocity PCIe card line from Violin covers capacities from 1.37 to 11TB, with form factors ranging from low profile to full height and full length and a lightweight driver replacing the need for host CPU and DRAM resources.
