VMware renames and repackages the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) known as VMware View into the Horizon Suite-- an integrated VDI solution with technology from VMware and its recent acquisitions.
Brought together in the Horizon View are Project Octopus, Project AppBlast, Project AppShift, ThinApp, Horizon Application Manager and Horizon Mobile, with a single product VMware says can push enterprise assets (files, desktops, SaaS services) to any device, be it PCs, tablets or smartphones.
Horizon consists of 3 parts:
- Horizon View 5.2-- provides end users with access to remote desktops on any HTML 5-capable browser, with hardware-accelerated 3D graphics support.
- Horizon Mirage 4-- allows IT or end users to manage PCs and/or PC images.
- Horizon Workspace 1.0-- the new addition to the VMware portfolio, allows admins to allocate data, applications or desktops to end users or groups instead of devices.
The VMware Horizon Suite should ship by end Q1 2013.
