BitMicro Takes On Enterprise Storage

E-mail Print PDF

BitMicro reveals the first maxIO SSD products-- enterprise-class PCIe solid state drives powered by the Talino architecture controller, able to deliver up to 400000 random 4KB IOPS per controller.

bitmicroUsing eMLC flash, the initial maxIO product is a full height, half-length PCI solid state accelerator handling up to up to 4.5TB of NAND flash, making it ideal for cloud, big data and streaming applications.

The SSDs carry patented flash management, data recovery technology, full data path protection, advanced security features and BitMicro's PowerGuard power failure technology.

SLC and MLC flash variants should be available in the future, together with maxIO PCIe low profile and maxIO 2.5-inch SAS SSDs.

The recently announced Talino architecture is also interesting-- powered by a quad-core controller, it handles data processing without wasting server resources, with eight 5Gb PCIe lanes, two SAS-6GB/s ports and two SATA-6Gb/s ports. The controller also carries two ISIP with hot plug support, RAID configuration support and BCH correction code.

The chip supports Legacy, Toggle 1.0 and ONFI 2.3 flash in single-, dual-, quad- and octal-die packages.

“These 1st maxIO SSDs begin BitMicro’s entry into the enterprise market," the company says. "For over a decade we have designed and manufactured SSDs for highly demanding defense and industrial customers. We’re leveraging our experience with mission-critical applications to deliver new feature-rich, high performance and extremely durable SSDs to the enterprise.”
