E-mail Print PDF

The compute portion of the HP public cloud emerges out of beta at Discover 2012, Frankfurt, together with additional features from the company's converged cloud strategy.

HP Converged CloudJoining the OpenStack-powered public cloud are enhancements to the Cloud Service Automation (CSA) software, now at version 3.1 with improved support for hypervisors including Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM), Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware ESX.

Also revealed at the Discovery event is the PaaS portion to the HP cloud strategy, one based on VMware's Cloud Foundry. Now in line with the likes of Microsoft Azure and Google App Engine, the company continues its best to shift public attention from the recent Autonomy acquisition/cooked books fiasco.

Another announcements include the beta version of a block storage service and the addition of 50 apps to the Cloud Maps portfolio.

Built on the OpenStack open source cloud platform, the HP converged cloud suite allows customers to share a common architecture between their on-premises and public cloud. Platform partners include PaaS companies such as App Fog, CloudBees and CumoLogic and storage partners like Panzure, Riverbed and TwinStrata.
