Lenovo announces a pair of solutions for enterprises building end-to-end applications leveraging Microsoft Azure-- the ThinkAgile MX1021 and ThinkSystem DM7100, both providing validated solutions for cloud tiering.

Lenovo“At a time when the speed and agility of processes critically impacts your daily business operations, our customers demand more powerful, secure and flexible solutions,” the company says. “Lenovo’s technology architecture is purpose-built to deliver real-time, valuable insights from edge to core to cloud, enabling a new era of intelligence where customers can fully realize the potential of the data at their disposal.”

The ThinkAgile MX1021 uses Azure Stack HCI solutions to allow enterprises to move compute to the edge and act on data as soon as it is created. For example, it allows retailers to reduce inventory losses by analysing customer sentiment analysis data in realtime at the edge. In manufacturing, edge servers can collect sensor data, enabling realtime monitoring to increase efficiency and productivity. Healthcare organisations can combine the ThinkAgile MX1021 with Azure Stack Hub and Azure IoT Hub to tier medical data and increase the efficiencyof clinical, customer and operational analytics.

Audio comes through four Yamaha speaker elements, while a wide-angle HD camera allows far-end participants to see everyone clearly.

Increasing Zoom Demand Brings Security Issues

Videoconferencing is seeing a surge in demand following the coronavirus (aka Covid-19) pandemic, with the chief solution being Zoom-- a solution that, while popular, is currently beset by a bevy of security issues.

Zoom meetingsA Zoom white paper on the topic of security states the videoconferencing service can secure meetings through end-to-end (E2E) encryption, something hosts can set up while creating a meeting. However, according to an investigation by The Intercept, Zoom does not actually feature E2E encryption. Instead it uses TLS transport encryption, the kind web servers use to secure HTTPS websites. This means that while meetings are private from anyone spying the users' network, the company can actually access the unencrypted video and audio content of meetings taking place on the service.

The lack of E2E encryption leads to the issue of "zoom bombing," or people jumping into Zoom meeting without an invite in the name of harassment. In addition, users on the iOS app can send meeting data to the Facebook app, and share the email address and photos of thousands of Zoom members. Such privacy and security issues have lead organisations such as NASA and SpaceX to prohibit the use of Zoom, while agencies including the FBI are looking into the aforementioned problems.
